balance 300x199 Balance.Like many women, one of my biggest challenges in life is finding balance.

I may look as if I have my act together. I have a lot in my life that I am very proud of…my education, marriage, house, kids, career, and ability to turn any negative into a positive.  I’m usually smiling & have my makeup and hair done.   When I get my mind set on something….I just somehow focus.

Friends tell me, “I don’t know how you do it all.” I do take that as a compliment.  But deep inside of me I sigh, “How do I do it & why?”  Why do I volunteer for things that throw my life off balance and leave me feeling “annoyed” or “ticked” off that I got talked into that.  Why is it that I can’t say, “No!” to things that aren’t a priority?  Things get jostled, sometimes important things, to the side burner where they don’t belong.  This, coupled with the fact that I can’t turn my brain off, knocks me off balance.  Woo…I admit balance is for sure my area of development. There I said it.

So how do we as women and many of us mothers, balance it all? We have careers, families, kids, eating right, exercising, housework, thank you notes to write, groceries to shop for, homework to help with, dinner to make, e-mails to check, worries to filter, bills to pay and extracurricular activities to keep up with. Did I mention sleep?  What’s that?

I’m not about act like I’m an expert at balance when I find my self tripping through life with a million different pairs of shoes on.   But I can help you learn while I’m learning.   Hopefully, sharing some of my mistakes with you all will inspire you to not make the same ones. And I believe I can help you make good food choices, adapt an active lifestyle or pick out a great lipstick.

A few years ago I was lucky to meet Marianne Impal taking Yoga classes at Cornerstone Health and Fitness. Marianne was my instructor & I must say one of the best Yoga instructor’s I’ve ever practiced with.   She is an inspiration and her sunny personality is contagious.  It was impossible to leave one of her classes feeling stressed or off balance.

Unfortunately, morning sickness with my first daughter threw me out of the routine of going to her classes. After I had my 1st baby, I struggled with balancing my full time job and felt guilty being away from her.  Luckily, I did go walking a lot and found other forms of exercise in which I could be active with my little sweet baby girl (gulp…now six!)

Then, my funny and amazing son (now almost 5) was born 20 months after my first.  And now with my third cutie bear daughter, 19 months old, I find even less and less “me” time.  I find excuse after excuse to NOT find time for myself….no time for yoga.  Some days there is balance.  Others, not much at all when life is like a teeter totter on the playground.

After getting swept away from taking Yoga classes for years, I ran into Marianne at a girls’ night out with some mutual friends.  Thrilled that she remembered me…must have been my perfect downward dog posture- just kidding!  Anyway, it turns out that a woman I knew only as my Yoga instructor is quite the entrepreneur,  role model and a blogger.  As our paths cross quite often now, we got to chatting and she’ll be writing a guest post on balance.  So, let’s see what her take is on balance.  After all, who better to write about balance than a Diva Yoga Instructor and Mom of two.
