Chick-Fil-A Provides a Healthier Meal Option for Kids

Submitted by

cfa head4 Chick Fil A Provides a Healthier Meal Option for KidsIt was just announced yesterday in the LA Times that Chick-Fil-A has given a Recipe Restyle to their chicken nuggets and made it a NEW and HEALTHIER option on their kids menu.   I will say that I have always been quite fond of Chick-Fil-A for a variety of reasons (below).   I will also note that I am not being compensated in any way at all for this post- all opinions are my own.  I did receive a cute cow calendar a while back from their PR firm with a few coupons attached, but that is NOT what inspired me to write this article and I didn’t even use the coupons.

From their press release: “Our new kids’ meal reflects our commitment to helping parents strike a balance between nutrition, convenience and price. We want parents to know that they do have a choice at Chick-fil-A”  -Woody Faulk, the company’s vice president of brand strategy and design.

Their new 4 piece GRILLED chicken nuggets have 80 calories and 1 gram of fat and the six-piece has 110 and 1.5 grams of fat.  The other nugget option, the eight-piece FRIED nuggets, still have 260 calories and a wopping 12 grams of fat.  It also comes with fresh fruit & Milk, lemonade or water to drink.

I must also note that I am not a big proponent of eating out a lot.  I like healthy home cooked meals.  I like to be in control of the ingredients.  But I also realize that in today’s busy world, a quick served meal is something families reach for- even my family from time to time.  And if that’s what families are doing, it’s important to point out the BEST options out there.

Here is why I think Chic-Fil-A is pretty cool…

1) I’ll start out giving a Shout out to the Cow- Moo Moo!  Who can say they don’t think their EAT more Chicken ads are an absolute hoot?  It’s an ad campaign made of sheer brilliance.

2)Their employees are usually much friendlier and provide better service than any other chain I have been to.

3) They make the prizes that come with their meals educational- little golden books for the little ones and games and watches for older kids

4) They have Nutrition information available for all of their menu items- just ask if you don’t see it or visit their website.  They provide full disclosure.

5) They also have a Healthy Living Page available with recomendations and try to teach their customers about portion sizes and encourage them to excercise. I’m not sure how many people visit their website, but it is there.

6) There is no “super-size” fast food thing going on there AND I don’t think there ever was?

7) They are closed on Sundays.  The perfect night for a family meal at home and a nicey nice for their employees.

8) Sugar-Shout Out to their hand-spun milkshakes- worth every calorie.
