So pissed- paid a HHC (Nutritionist) a lot of money!! She told me to eat Kale and Quinoa (grouse!) and to do Yoga....Ommmm. I'm still tired and fat. And do you know how hard it is to do Yoga when your fat? Anyway, I called my insurance company and found out that seeing an RD is covered- woo hoo. If I lived closer to you my Diva friend, I would come see you. Know any fabulous RDs in KS?

Hi-
I am so sorry and know how frustrated and sad you must feel. I have been a mess over this. After I wrote this my son's symptoms got a little worse then finally better a few weeks later and off the Singulair.

These last few weeks have been so stressful for our family. My son had an ER visit, two rounds of bloodwork, was on antibiotics, had a neurology appt, EEG and MRI. All were normal- THANK GOD! But we are all still puzzled. Actually, I am pretty certain it was the Singulair that had a Neurologic Effect. And the drug does have a NeuroPsychiatric Warning on the label- specifically for depression.

Honestly, I think this drug should have a Black Box Warning. My son was on no other meds, was neg for strep and nothing else changed around here w food or school. It was also a pretty acute onset.

After I took my son off the drug, he seemed to have a worsening of symptoms (thus ER visit) before it got a little better. We ruled out PANDAS, seizures and the MRI showed Nothing abnormal (sigh...relief!) We are approaching 4 weeks off of the drug and the past few days his symptoms seem much less severe- only some blinking today. I did see parents report online the longer on the med, the longer it takes to recover. But every child is different.

I think taking your daughter off the drug is a GREAT idea. It may take some time, but try to be patient. My next step is allergy testing so we can avoid anything he may be allergic to that was causing the nighttime and exercise induced coughing.

This Month- I've been having him drink a lot of water and extea precaution avoiding all fake food additive, colors, sugars (which we did anyway.) singulair does have aspartame. We have also been getting him in bed early everynight with hope that good sleep will help heal any damage. I've been making him smoothies with spinach in them too- any extra veggies and antioxidants we can squeeze in. And I've been giving him Omega 3 Gummy vitamins (w natural colorings)

Maybe this is extreme, but yesterday and today my son seemed much better- just a little blinking, but not as much hand involvement and I only noticed one head nod thing.

I'll say a prayer for your little girl tonight. Have Faith!

Hugs,

A meds are contributing. That's how I ran across this post. She has been on Singulair since age 2. I plan on stopping that med and seeing what happens. It would be great for her tics to become less frequent or stop. She has multiple motor and vocal tics and her friends are starting to notice and criticize her for them...:(

A chocolate cake advocate for National Nutrition Month is most definitely my kinda dietitian!!!

Thanks for the recipe, I may try it next time I get a yen to bake something (I'm mostly a cake mix kinda gal). I'm a chocoholic & would love to get into dark chocolate for all those health bennies - but I just haven't acquired a taste for it. I did find a dark chocolate candy with mint creme filling that I like the taste of.

So maybe I'll try the recipe with an added touch of mint in the frosting or something.

Thanks again!

Thank you. We've been praying for an answer and that everything goes back to normal. I've been researching Singulair a ton and it is for sure NOT as safe as I thought. My advice to any parent is to give it as a last resort for only Severe Asthma.

Thanks for the detail info on Singulair and I am sure that I will try to avoid them for my kids in the future as much as possible. I am glad that he comes back to normal, but lets pray that God will cure him completely soon. As my pastor used to said, Dr. can only tell us and does whatever human being can say and do. The ultimate results still on God's hand.
God bless your boy and your family.
