Nutrition Tech- Part 1, Meal Planning

Submitted by

chef image Nutrition Tech Part 1, Meal Planning First, a big thank you to the MOMSClub of Buckingham who donated $60 to Women for Women (My Donation Page) at the Nutrition Workshop I did for them last week.  WomenforWomen.org.com is a charity I support and have now sponsored two sisters.

I had a blast teaching the fun women in this Moms Group about meal planning and some of the latest and greatest in delicious Nutrition technology.  And how fun, I used the iPad2 and Apple TV to demo how to use PepperPlate.com, Pinterest and Lose it. (Thanks to Paul- my AV man!)

Planning family meals can be a daunting and tiring task for any Mom.  And since sadly we don’t all have a Personal Chef like Oprah to plan and make all of our meals, it’s something we Moms have to do ourselves along with all the other things in our busy & hectic lives.

Being too busy to meal plan is just one of the reasons families tend to get into a food slump, eating the same meals & foods night after night for dinner.  It’s also one of the reasons, many families eat out so frequently.  Research shows that families that plan and make meals together at home make healthier and better food choices.  It does take a little bit of time and effort, but it’s all well worth it and can actually be quite fun.

PepperPlate.com is on my new favorite Meal Planning finds.  While it is not a personal chef (boo!),  it’s very user friendly site that works hand in hand with many awesome recipe websites like AllRecipes.com, Epicurious.com, FoodNetwork.com and etc.   And many of these recipe sites also already have the Nutritional Analysis done which is super cool.

Once you get the hang of Pepper Plate and import your favorite recipes and make a calendar, meal planning become a breeze!  And bonus- the website syncs to an iPhone/iPad app so you can see your meals and shopping list for the week while sitting in the carpool line or at a soccer game.

It’s one of my favorite new tech Nutrition finds.  It’s sort of like a Pinterest site for your recipes only it does more!  It not only adds spice to your life by helping you organize your meals on a cool online calendar (that syncs with the app)  BUT it also creates a shopping list that is organized by section of the store i.e. Produce, Spices, etc..  And yes, you can see that shopping list at the store from your phone.  Or if you like having a paper list, you can print it out before leaving the house.  Printing is also a good idea if you are skeptical about Phone reception in your local supermarket.

On Pinterest, I have pinned some really cool meal planning ideas like THESE- CLICK HERE.    Although I am super crafty, I still have not found the time to make  beautiful meal planning boards for my kitchen.   And because I am an iPhone addict (I admit it) Pepper Plate just works better for me.  Although I would love to hang an impressive menu board in my kitchen, it’s just not happening any time soon.

Here is how Pepper Plate works:

First, from your computer Go to PepperPlate.com.

And here is how you create your shopping list.   Make sure to check off anything you may already have before you leave the house.

I hope these screen shots help you navigate around Pepper Plate.  There are also many other apps and websites you can try for meal planning such as: Easy Meals, AllRecipes, Meal Maker and FoodOnTheTable.com.  Pepper Plate just happens to be the one I found easiest to use.

FYI- I have no affiliation at all with Pepper Plate.  It’s simply a site and app I LOVE!  Nutrition Tech, part 2 of my workshop will be about Lose it,  another Website/App I love to help you make great food choices and lose/maintain your weight and track your exercise and encourage you to get moving!
